PalmPilot HOTSYNC caused an invalid page fault in module SISDATE DLL
When trying to sync, the following message appears: "HOTSYNC caused an invalid page fault in module SISDATE.DLL
How can I resolve that?
Follow these steps:

1. Create a new calendar, cardfile, and write file in SK98 and save as a different name.

2. Reset the Pilot.

3. Configure TS to perform a one-way sync from the Pilot to the newly created SK98 files (step 1) and then try to sync.

4. If that goes fine, then reconfigure TS by selecting your original SK98 files and again do a one-way sync this time from SK98 to the Pilot.

5. If that goes fine, you should then be able to do two-way syncs from then on.

If you still have problems, I would suggest the following:

1. Back up your data, which is stored in the Sidekick 98\userdata folder by default

2. Uninstall Pilot Desktop, SK98, and TS 2.5 by running Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

3. Reinstall Pilot Desktop, reset the Pilot, and perform a one-way from the Pilot to Pilot Desktop.

4. Reinstall SK98 and TS 2.5, reconfigure TS selecting the new test files you created per the instructions above, then try a one-way sync from SK98 to the Pilot.

Q28
Severe This installation has detected that a previous installation

Q.
When I try to install Sidekick 99 for the first time, the following message appears: "Severe This installation has detected that a previous installation or un-installation requires you to restart your computer"

What do I do to resolve this?

A: Reboot your system
1. Look for a file named Wininit.ini, in either your WinNT or Windows folders.
2. If you find this file, rename it to Wininit.old
3. Try the Sidekick install again.
It should now work.

Q29
Opening SKW1 SKW2 SDK95 SDK97 and Internet Sidekick files in SDK98

Importing data files from Sidekick for Windows 1.0 (SKW1), Sidekick for Windows 2.0 (SKW2), Sidekick 95 (SK95) and Sidekick 97 (Internet Sidekick is referred to as SK97) into Sidekick 98 (SK98).

A.
CALENDAR FILES
The Calendar files from all previous versions, except Sidekick for Windows 1.0, are in the same file format and can be opened directly into SK98. Browse to the directory where your previous files were stored, open, and "Save As" to the Sidekick 98\Userdata directory. Once opened in Sidekick 98, they are backwards compatible only with SK97.

Calendars which were created in Sidekick for Windows 1.0 will need to be opened and saved in Sidekick for Windows 2.0 in order to be converted to the appropriate file format. Choose File, Open Calendar and then File, Save Calendar As to save the files to the Sidekick 98/Userdata directory. Once this has been done, the files can then be opened in Sidekick 98.

Calendar data in all versions may reside in up to 9 unique files. The XXXX (or XX if they are defined by 2 initials etc) shown below represents the letters of your initials based on information provided when you installed Sidekick. The XXXX (or XX if they are defined by 2 initials etc) may also reflect the name you assigned a Calendar file.

Calendar files are:

XXXXEVEN.SKW Appointment list data file
XXXXCALL.SKW Call list data file
XXXXALAR.SKW Alarm data file
XXXXTASK.SKW ToDo list data file
XXXXMAST.SKW Goals list data file
XXXXRECR.SKW Recurring Appointment, Call and ToDo data file (Tasks)
XXXXINIT.SKW Calendar initialization data file
XXXXDATA.SKW Multi-day events and Special Days data file
XXXXCSCA.SKW Categories, assigns, call status, and predefined activities data file
CONTACTS (formerly CARDFILES)

Contact files from all previous versions, except Sidekick for Windows 1.0, can be opened directly into SK98. To open SKW2 files, browse to the directory where your previous files were stored, select *.sdb in the "Files of Type" drop down list of the Open File dialog, open, and "Save As" to the Sidekick 98/Userdata directory. Once opened in Sidekick 98, they are backwards compatible only with SK97.

Cardfiles which were created in Sidekick for Windows 1.0 will need to be opened and saved in Sidekick for Windows 2.0 in order to be converted to the appropriate file format. Choose File, Open Cardfile and then File, Save Cardfile As to save the files to the Sidekick 98/Userdata directory. Once this has been done, the files can then be opened in Sidekick 98. Follow the above instructions to open the files in Sidekick 98. To get a Sidekick for Windows 2.0 install disk, please contact Support.

Cardfiles are:

*.SKCARD SK95, SK97, SK98

*.SDB SKW1, SKW2

MEMOS (formerly NOTE files in SKW1 and SKW2, and WRITE files in SK95 and SK97)

Memo files from all previous versions are in the same file format, and can be opened directly into SK98. To open SKWI and SKW2 files, browse to the directory where your previous files were stored, select *.fdr in the "Files of Type" drop down list of the Open File dialog, open, and "Save As" to the Sidekick 98\Userdata directory. Once opened in Sidekick 98, they are backwards compatible only with SK97.

Q30
REX_PCMCIA driver for Windows 2000

Q.
Where can I download a Windows 2000 driver so I can use my REX device in the PCMCIA slot?

A.
Intel Corporation now owns the REX line of devices. You used to be able to download drivers by clicking on the following links:
(or to be correct quite likely as I have checked, you may not!)

Now the only place that appears to have them is:

http://www.tice.i12.com/index.html

Any that aren't available at Tice's website above, I suggest you contact Intel Support direct!

They used to be available at the following sites but don't even bother trying, they aren't there!

Q31
Sidekick95 97 Internet Sidekick 98 or 99 Purchase

Q.
Where can I purchase Sidekick 99 (or 98 or 97 or 95)?

A.
Starfish no longer ships the Sidekick95, 97, Internet Sidekick, 98 or 99 version. It is now part of our overall TrueSync Platform as the Sidekick Internet Planner.

Q32
REX TrueSync Events appearing at wrong time

Q.
Events on my REX device appear at the wrong time. What can I do about it?

A.
Starfish has developed a utility called TZEXPLORER.EXE that corrects the problem with events appearing at the wrong time on a REX device. This occurs because the time zone information in Windows does not agree with the TrueSync time zone file. When the REX device attempts to display the event, it will display it at the wrong time during daylight savings time.
TZEXPLORER.EXE will enable you to set the time zone information in TrueSync to exactly match the time zone in Windows. This utility will also enable you to add a city that does not already appear in the time zones list. TZEXPLORER IS NOW AVAILABLE FROM THE FOLLOWING PAGE:

Use the following Tices Web Page for the TzExplorer file as the other Starfish ftp Link is no longer available from 31 May 2003

Click this link to download TZEXPLORER.EXE and go to the Windows | TruSync Link in the Sidebar of the page:
http://www.tice.i12.com/index.html
ftp://ftp2.starfish.com/pub/tzexplorer/tzexplorer.exe

To use this utility, follow the instructions listed below:

1. Close TrueSync Plus or TrueSync Desktop.

2. Double-click the date displayed in Windows system tray or choose Settings - Control Panel - Date/Time from Windows Start menu. Click the Time Zone tab and make sure the correct time zone is selected. Also, make sure to check "Automatically adjust clock for daylight saving changes". Click OK.

3. Using Windows Explorer, make a backup copy of TSZONES.DAT which is stored in the Program Files\Starfish\TrueSync folder by default.

4. Copy TZEXPLORER.EXE to the same folder that TSZONES.DAT resides in.

5. Double-click TZEXPLORER.EXE in Windows Explorer. Select the same time zone that you selected in Windows Date/Time. (Note: To add a city, simply select a city in the same time zone from the list and change the city name.) Click the "Set Information Using Current Window's Time Zone" button. Click Update, Save, then Close.

6. Delete all TIMEZONE.HDR and TIMEZONE.BDY files stored in the TrueSync\Users folders.

7. Restart TrueSync Plus. Click the World icon on the Toolbar to configure the time zones. You will need to specify the Home Clock and Local Clock.

8. Choose Synchronize | Options. Click the Advanced tab and check "Only use data from this client for synchronization." This allows you to select a client (i.e. Outlook) which will clear the applicable files in the User folder before the next synchronization. It is recommended that you select your application from the list box. This will instruct TrueSync to overwrite the REX device. After synchronizing, the Advanced option will automatically revert back to "Continue to synchronize normally."

You are now ready to synchronize provided you have configured the appropriate calendar, contacts, memos, and to do's.

Q33
Sidekick 1 for Windows and Files from YourWay

Q:
Cardfile and calendar files created in YourWay are compatible with Sidekick. Report files are not. Cardfile extensions are now .SDB and the calendar file extensions are now .SKW. YourWay files can be renamed to the correct extension and then opened in Sidekick.

A:
Installing Sidekick-

1. Be sure you do not have YourWay or the Quick Menu running when you install Sidekick and follow the installation instructions.

Renaming YourWay's Cardfiles:

1. Make a backup copy of all the cardfiles that you are going to rename and use in Sidekick. YourWay cardfiles have a YDB extension.

2. Open the File Manager, Click on the YOURWAY directory so it is highlighted.

3. Choose File | Rename.

4. In the Rename dialog box, enter "YOURWAY\*.YDB" (don't type the quotes) in the "From." text box. Enter "YOURWAY\*.SDB" in the "To-." text box. Click OK. This will rename all the cardfiles in the YOURWAY directory to be used in Sidekick. If you do not want to rename all the cardfiles, select only the ones to rename before opening the Rename dialog box. (Ctrl-click on each file name to select it.)

5. Choose File | Copy.

6. In the Copy dialog box, enter- "C:\YOURWAY\*.SDB" in the "From:" text box and "C:\SKW" in the "To:" text box. (Change the location for the Sidekick directory if yours is located on another drive or has a different name.) Click OK.

7. Your cardfiles are now ready to be opened in Sidekick, Close the File Manager and open Sidekick. Choose File | Open in Sidekick's cardfile to open any of the renamed cardfiles.

Renaming YourWay's Calendar files:

1. Make a backup copy of the calendar files. These are all the files in the YOURWAY\DATA directory that begin with your initials and have a YWY extension. When you installed YourWay, the program prompted you for up to four initials to aid in identifying your personal files. For example, if your initials were CWB, YourWay would have created CWBTASK.YWY, CWBDATA.YWY, CWBMAST.YWY, and other similar files.

2. Open the File Manager. Click on the YOURWAY\DATA directory to highlight it.

3. Highlight all the calendar files mentioned above (beginning with your initials, and ending with the .YWY extension) except one: the *INIT.YWY. Do not highlight or rename this file. (Ctrl-click on each file name to select it )

4. Choose File | Rename.

5. In the Rename dialog box, the files that you've just chosen should automatically be listed in the "From" text box. Enter "*.SKW" in the "To:" text box. Click OK.

6. Choose File | Copy.

7. In the Copy dialog box, enter "C:\YOURWAY\DATA\*.SKW" in the "From:" text box and "C:\SKW\DATA" in the "To:" text box. Click OK.

8. All the calendar files are now in the Sidekick directory and are ready to be used in Sidekick. Close the File Manager and open Sidekick. Open the calendar file you need in Sidekick's calendar by choosing File | Open.

NOTE: Multi-Day events (YourWay called them Conferences)will have to be edited.

(This download is not available anymore from the Starfish Site)

Q.
The text in the weekly and monthly views of the calendar is not word wrapping properly. The text is broken in the wrong places. How can I fix this?

If you haven't updated Sidekick since you purchased the CD, you will need to get the Sidekick99 update to fix this problem.

which is No Longer Available from Starfish but

THE LATEST VERSION OF SIDEKICK IS ON THIS WEBSITE SEE Siderealb0x Home Page

SO YOU DO NOT NEED THIS UPDATE

and THAT was true too, but NO MORE.

Q45
SDK99 ToDo items do not forward

Q:
Why do To Do items not roll forward to the next day?

A:
Following is a list of reasons To Do items may not be rolling forward:

1. The maximum number of To Do items on any given day is 96. If you have 96, Sidekick 99 will no longer forward them.

2. Only To Do items created on today's date or later will advance. For example, today is 9/11/98. You cannot create a To Do on 9/1 0/98 and have it advance. You must create it on 9/1 1 /98 or any later date.

3. Sidekick 99 must be closed and reopened in order to re-read the system time. If you always leave your machine on, To Do items will not carry forward.
4. If none of the items apply, here is another workaround:
Close Sidekick 99.
Open a text editor such as Notepad or WordPad.

Open the *INIT.SKW file, where * is equal to your calendar name or initials (which is stored in the Program Files | Starfish | Sidekick 99 | Userdata folder by default).

Under the [CalTodo] section, you'll see a line that reads LastEditTime=. Change the date to the last day your To Do items appear in Sidekick 99.

Save this file, exit your text editor, and then re-open Sidekick 99. To Do items should now roll forward.

Q46
Win 2000 To Do items do not forward

Q:
I have Sidekick 99 installed in Windows 2000 and I notice that To Do items in my calendar do not forward to the next day. Why?

A:
This is correct, To Do items in Sidekick 99 will not forward to the next day.

Sidekick 99 was developed before Windows 2000 was available, so it was not tested in the Windows 2000 environment.
